I spent Christmas in Jaco with my friend Lynette from the states and her two friends; Erica and Alexandra from Columbia. Despite the lack of snow it was a very enjoyable Christmas. We saw Crocodiles which almost never happens back home. We played in the waves... I think I even "caught" a couple of them, but mostly they caught me and I ended up with sand in every crack and crevice. So worth it!
The 26th was Maria's birthday so we met back in San Jose and managed to find an Irish pub. We drank Irish Car Bombs in remembrance of Maria's time in Ireland. I had one of my favorite Peace Corps momments when I realized I was sitting in an Irish pub in Costa Rica looking at a picture of Che Guevera positioned next to a picture of Oprah. You just can't make this stuff up.
Hope everyone back home also had a Merry Christmas. I have to say that it wasn't home, but I really can't complain.

Hey Baby, The haircut looks great. KMR and I are going to Dee's for New Years. After I get back I am going to round up a bunch of postcards of the wild horses on the Bookcliffs, Monument and surronding mountains and get them off to you for you show and tell projects. Well after hearing about, and seeing the photos of your Costa Rican christmas I am more of a heathen than ever, cause I want to see ancient reptiles and drink car bombs on the day "some people's" savior was supposedly born.
By the way, what's in a car bomb? Here I am just drinking copious amounts of wine, when I could be experimenting with exotic violent sounding libations!

I know how strange the Holidays seem to you as I was in Chile for Thanksgiving. The Plaza in Santiago with a giant Christmas tree and people running around in shorts and sleeveless shirts, is just way, different. Christmas eve dinner was at my new digs this year and most of the afternoon the front door was open because it was so hot. Strange, strange.
I'm glad to hear you are able to experience Costa Rica and the culture. Chile was soooooo amazing I hope to go back as soon as possible. Not sure Tracey and Josh are ready for me, but heck, I can spoil those kids with the best of grandmothers. Just kidding.
As soon as I can figure out how to do it, I will forward pictures of my trip to you.
